Who We Are
The Waterfront Condominium Complex is a premier living residence in downtown Marquette, Michigan. The history, location, picturesque views of Lake Superior and Lower Harbor Mattson Park, make it a desirable place to live. Established in 2007, the building has a uniquely original design, is secure, well maintained and offers incredible livability.
History
The Waterfront Condominium Complex building has an extensive industrial history.
In 1858, this building originated as a wooden structure called the Iron Bay Foundry. Heavy machinery for mines, and steam powered engines for ore ships were built and repaired.
In 1899, it was renamed the Lake Shore Engine Works, where inboard marine engines were developed. It later merged with Lake Shore Engineering, producing special assembly line machinery for the Ford Motor Company.
In 1907, the building was purchased by Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad, and used as their depot. Log hauling, iron ore, freight and passenger service were provided.
After 130 years of industry, the building sat vacant until plans to redevelop it as an upscale residential/commercial development was completed in 2007.
